Lauren Nowell chartered us today for a 40th birthday present for her friend Shane. He’d never been fishing before and she wanted to introduce him. It was good to finally get out and fish today as I had rescheduled some trips earlier in the month due to the lack of a Striper presence. The plan was simple, leave later in the morning to fish both tides. Didn’t have the right conditions to eel so we went to the clams. Had 4 on right away, all short. Then we picked away at shorts until Lauren landed a nice 16lb keeper. Another fish ran a rod off real good and Shane had the circle hook pull after a long fight on what looked like a good fish.
We hit a long lull waiting for the tide, while enjoying awesome weather for this time of the year. Made a move looking for bigger fish and once the tide started to run, we started dragging eels. It wasn’t long before one of the dead sticks hooked up and with Lauren on the rod, after a stubborn fight she had a lean 26lb bass on deck. Ended the day clamming and picked a few more Stripers before heading for the barn. Final tally 2 keepers and 10 shorts. 2 of the shorts were American Littoral Society tagged in Shane’s name. I still get a kick out of the little guy Lauren was holding that went back. He was definitely chowing down on our Clams before he got caught. Can’t wait to hear how you guys cooked them up and thanks again.
