Today I had repeat customer Ken Davis accompanied by his son Tyler, his friend “Wags” and Cameron for his annual Striper trip. Discussed with Ken that the ocean liveline bite was off and that we would have a better shot of catching the Bass on Clams today in a 2 hour window than in the ocean with Bunker. On the spot, it took about 45 minutes of cracking clams to get bass chewing. The guys would the go on to catch 10 Stripers, with only 4 making the box. The highlight was Tyler’s 18 pound (on the Boga) Striper. A few blues were also caught and released.
Once the bite died off with the tied, we went into the ocean to see if we could find some action on the Bunker pods. Ed filled the well and then we found a pod that was being harassed but we couldn’t pull any fish from it. With time running short, I ran to one of the spots where we had good Sea Bass action the day before. There was life, but not like the day before. Much more bergal action today. Despite that, 10 Sea Bass and 6 ling were added to the bounty. A number of toy togs were caught and released making for a 5 species in one trip day. Cameron and Wags caught both their first ever and first keeper stripers today.
