Today we were chartered by Greg Stokes to fish the Raritan Bay Anglers Tournament. Based on some Friday pre-fishing, we followed the same plan as last Sunday in anticipation of that tournament winning doormat being there. The morning started off tough for us with the local snags just yielding shorts, skates, ling and many lost rigs. Made the run to where we fished Friday and we caught some keepers and shorts and added a bunch more lost rigs to the count before it died off. Another move yielded the same results.
We fished Gulp, Mai Tai Bucktails, strip baits, dragged rigs and by days end we had 11 keepers in the box and nothing worth weighing in. The guys fished hard all day but we just couldn’t make it happen. Wish I zigged when I should have zagged based on some other reports. But Tournament fishing is all about taking a risk / gamble and today mine did not pay off. I know the big one is going to come from these spots, its just a matter of time.
