July 2, 2011 Very Good Open Boat Fluke to 5lbs

Today I ran our first an open boat Fluke trip for the season with Greg, Dave, CJ, 8 year old Joey and Lito (Hollywood’s brother). Slow fishing in the AM picking a keeper here and there in the early AM. We saw better action in the PM.  Little joey was hot in the morning boxing a 5lb fluke and 2 other 20″ keepers. Lito came on strong in the afternoon and came close to boxing his limit including the 6lb fish pictured. Seems there could be a family rivalry match in the making, its going to get interesting this summer when the Rivera’s areonboard. By days end, the guys boxed 20 keepers to 6#, 1 sea bass and a ling. Gulp, Strip Baits and Mai Tai bucktails were the ticket today.

I will be Running Open Boat this Saturday and Sunday and will probably be fishing the Sandy Hook Bay Anglers (SHBA) Fluke Tournamen if there is enough interest. So if you want to do some marathon Fluking and have a chance at that Doormat, call me for details.  If today was a glimpse into what the Fluke season has in store for us, its going to be a great one. Don’t miss out.
